Sport Touring in Midwest

Last weekend I did my first sport touring trip on my 06 1000RR. Saturday I woke up nice and early, 5.30 to head out to the meeting spot for a few of us Chicago riders to head to the official meeting spot. After a little talking and breakfast we headed out in a few groups, about 30 total bikes. We weaved north west to Dubuque, IA and then straight north up the river to Wiona, MN then north further to Osseo, WI. Nothing was done on the highway, all backroads and local roads. This allows us to have a little fun, like opening up the bikes when we could and hitting some nice twisties. We stopped in Osseo, WI for the night after 380 miles from my house. We were lucky enough to snag an entire room at the local resturant where we could be as loud as we wanted. The owner was THRILLED to have us, as we spent A LOT of money and are great tippers. The evening festivities were drinking beer and lighting off a crap load of fireworks behind the hotel. I crashed at 11pm after a long and exhausting day.

Sunday was perfect!! Not a cloud in the sky and about 75 degrees. The day was going to be more miles and more technical roads. When I say technical, I mean technical. Some roads winding through the mountains were 15 mph extremely tight various elevation and decreasing radius curves. Tons of fun! I got to ride my first ferry across Lake Wisconsin not to mention watched a couple of Coon Dog Races in Rockton. It was quite fasinating!! All in all, a great weekend, though a tad sore on Monday, well worth the money and pain!!! I have a lot of pictures on my Flicker account, just click the "durban97" next to the Flicker icon to the left of this posting. Later!!!
