Day 4: North Shore

Shark's Cove Snorkeling

After we worked up an appetite snorkeling, we headed to Hale'iwa on the North Shore. It was a very cool little town and of course we had to have shaved ice at Matsumoto's- yummy! And yes, we checked out the crazy surfers at Sunset Beach.

Snorkeling was so much fun! Just a blast... so much so that Dan forgot about his upset tummy and I forgot about my itching hives. And the cover for the camera was worth it- Dan had a blast playing nature photographer. We saw a ton of fish and completely enjoyed ourselves.

I had to include this one in the blog just because it was such a beatiful spot. One of the best things about this trip was the just countless beautiful spots that you could stop at... everything from forest to beaches- just incredible.

Day 4: Chinaman's Hat

Chinaman's Hat

Day 4 we had to slightly change our plans. Dan was ready to roll over and die but we persevered. We woke up incredibly early to get to Hanauma Bay for snorkeling... then during their mandatory "don't ruin our nature preserve" video Dan busted through the doors to run to the bathroom. Quite the start to the day. So instead we just continued to head up towards the north shore. We drove up the Kamehameha Hwy, 830, which was just beautiful green, country side. Here we stopped at a Macademia Nut farm for a few gifts to bring back and made some little side stops at places like Chinaman's Hat. By the way- it was like 80 degrees so don't let the sweatshirt fool you... Dan felt aweful until we started snorkeling at Sharks Cove.

End of Day 3: Kailua Beach

Kailua Beach

Towards the end of day 3 happened upon Kailua Beach which was just a very pretty beach. We had fun walking down the beach before we headed to dinner. Dan was fortunate enough to end up with food poisoning from this oh so good tasting dinner... and somehow I ended up with hives. What an end to a completely fantastic day.

Day 3: Pali Lookout

Pali Lookout

One wrong turn in Oahu and you can end up on the other end of the island! And sometimes with the similar spelled road names and hwys it is just easy to do... so the wrong turn that shot us down H-3 was worth it.... it was a highway through what looks like a rainforest. Then to get back to where the hike we were trying to find (I was on a mission to see a waterfall) we drove up the Pali hwy which was equally cool. And Dan definitely enjoyed the highways with their hairpin turns.

We stopped off to enjoy the view from the Pali Lookout and man was it windy! Seriously, it was extremely windy!

Day 3: Ho'omaluhia Botanical Gardens

Ho'omaluhia Botanical Gardens

After the Portlock Spitting Cave, we continued driving up Hwy 72, which was just incredible. It is literally on the coast and there is cliff on one side and ocean on the other- just a breathtaking drive.

The next stop was Ho'omaluhia Botanical Gardens. Here it started to rain on us but we were prepared with an umbrella. It was so cool how in one spot it would be raining and then just a 5 minute drive and you were back in the sun...
