Oh Christmas Tree

There is still a few things I want to get on here from November before I start with the December stuff.  But I thought this capture from our weekend should not be hidden away on a hard drive.

For the longest time Dan didn't believe me that "being a ham" is an expression.  Which is surprising as he clearly enjoys hamming it up.  And our place is starting to look a little bit Christmasy...

Memorial Day 2010

For Memorial Day we headed out Iowa to visit the farm. As always with these trips, we had the best of intentions for getting out immediately after work but hectic last minute to do lists inevitable lead to leaving a little later than is ideal for a six hour drive; at least this timing allows for us to catch the brilliant sunset over the hills in Galena... and then debate about the positioning of the big dipper and Venus.

Saturday was filled with late afternoon naps, those warmed-by-the-sun, several hours long kind of naps.  And a mother daughter walk along the river trail.

While there may not have been a kitchen sink, there was grilled pork burgers, watermelon, potato salad, and a Klondike bar or two. And as the new sink was set to be delivered on Tuesday, I bet my mom is doing a little dance to have a fully functioning kitchen after the many weeks without due to an unexpected backorder.

Dan played chaffeuer for my afternoon photo quest- we drove around in search of interesting material for me to practice photography.  Of course, a little brother with the inside scope lead to the most interesting spots... a house with a tree growing out the middle!? Yes, please.  Thanks, Ray!

The dogs might have had the most fun of all of us.  They had a weekend of being tethered-free... and they soaked it up big time.

We even got to see a couple little baby calves...

And of course, it was pretty awesome to get to spend time with three of our nephews, it is always fun to see how much they change between the visits.

Holiday Preparations

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

The weeks leading up to Christmas have been a blur.  Between the "almost move" that preoccupied nearly three weeks and starting a new job, our days have been a little hectic.  But we squeezed in a few holiday decorations and managed to fit in a little holiday baking/candy making along with a couple get-togethers with friends.  We are almost ready for Christmas and for saying goodbye to 2009.

Thanksgiving at the Farm

This year we celebrated Thanksgiving at the farm.  It was short but filled with a lot of good quality time with the whole family.  In recent years Thanksgiving has started to move up the list on favorite holidays as I love the simplicity of just focusing on having a great meal with those you love... there is no mass gift shopping or hiding behind a costume or overly-marketed expectations.  It is just good food and a moment to relax.  Unless you are the one hosting of course, then it may feel a little different.  I just love the time to sit back and visit with family.

On Thanksgiving morning we woke up to a frost.  While most of you have had many of these, we had yet to see one in the city so I had to run out with my camera to try to catch a few shots.  Granted, I first had to have a cup of coffee so it had started to melt by the time I got my rear out the door...

On Friday, the day we celebrated Thanksgiving with our family (we went to my Grandma's on Thursday), Dan and Matt headed out to play Farmer For a Day with Ray and Dad.  They had a good time and it got them out of the house so they weren't just sitting in front of the tv.

Backlighting is something I clearly need practice with (dang sun never cooperates).

Then we stuffed ourselves with all the traditional foods.  Because I tend to be helping with getting the food ready for the table and then the dishes, I didn't sneak any pictures... I am going to have to remember to project manage that task for Dan next time.  So, now onto Christmas preparations!

Happy Thanksgiving

There are many things that I am grateful for but I will keep it short and simple; I am grateful for all the memories that I have from this year and the past 31 years and for the people that helped make those memories.

Happy Thanksgiving!
