The Last Walk In The Park

Since the dogs are pretty depressed about the move we indulged them today with a final walk through Lincoln Park. We thought what better area to start with than our first stomping grounds, the Gold Coast.

The dogs started whining as we drove through the Lincoln Park neighborhood... they miss Oz Park. Once we started walking by North Ave we decided that we would walk by the beach if they remembered their trick of darting to the tunnel as we walk past... they remembered.

We love to walk by the lake...

The park is gorgeous this time of year as every thing is green and so many trees are blooming... it is truly one of my favorite times of the year in Chicago.

The dogs were on the prowl for squirrels. Fortunately for Dan {unfortunately for the pups} there were no squirrels to be found for chasing.

It was a gorgeous day for our last walk through Lincoln Park. Ok, so maybe that is a little dramatic... I am sure that we will do walks through the park again but with how busy our summer is it will probably be a while before we bring the dogs in to visit their favorite spot for a while. We felt a little nostalgic as we thought about not living with this as our backyard anymore. Hopefully the suburb parks will be a nice substitute for the pups.

Pathetic Beagle Time

Shelby loves to play the 'pathetic beagle' card. She seriously plays it when it is doggie bath time...

And again when it is cold outside as she can't decide which she hates more- to be cold or to have to wear her flower sweater...

But she does approve of the fireplace... that makes up for the bathtime and cold weather a little bit...

Sunday Doggie Spa Day

As we are saving our pennies for the wedding, taking the pups to the groomers has been cut out. Now we get to go back to having Sunday Doggie Spa Day. Dan scrubs them down and then I get to dry them off. Shelby loves to get blowdried so she sits nicely for that but when we mention "bath time" she plays the pathetic card. I think they secretly enjoy it because they know that they are stinky.

Surgery for Shelby

Shelby After Surgery
Originally uploaded by durban97.

A few days ago, Shelby had to undergo surgery to remove a noncancerous tumor from her chest. It grew quickly, so Tara and I were concerned and decided to get it taken care of quickly. This picture was taken the evening after we picked her up. The drugs aren't fully worn off, so she isn't quite herself. You can see her scar a little bit in this picture, a nice 3 inch scar. She wouldn't like me posting it up on the internet, so I have to respect her wishes. All in all, she is doing much better and can't wait to stop wearing the foam collar.

The Third Dog...

For a week, my loving Parents had to fly back to Corpus Christi Texas to finalize their move to Chicago. So Tara and I volunteered to Doggiesit Chase, their white American Eskimo. He is a 22lb giant ball of fur, with so much energy you would think he is on Cocaine. The first few nights were an adventure as Eddie and Chase battled it out while Shelby tried to jump in when she could. Below is a link to YouTube which contains the battle sequence.

A few days into the fun, Tara had to leave for Atlanta for business. So I got stuck with these wild beasts for a few more nights. Oh the fun! Try walking three hyper dogs in Chicago, and pick up big piles of crap!!! I needed a few extra arms, but you adapt and become an expert juggler. All in all, a great time, that all the dogs enjoyed. Eddie and Chase are great buddies that love to run around and play whenever possible. I can't wait to drop off my two dogs at my parents house for revenge....
