Bicycling

I can't believe it took us this long to both have bicycles again.  One of my favorite things so far this summer is that we ride our bikes together. Mostly to the Y but also other random times like going to the Tap.  It makes me happy.  I hope that we always live somewhere that has walking and biking as part of the getting around culture.

Ping! Ping! Ping!

The sound of hail to me is instantly the sound of high cost damage.  Growing up in a northern plains state on farm hail could lead to catastrophic destruction and I distinctly remember one specific storm from when I was in high school where we had softball sized hail land on my parent's farm in the middle of the night, all five of us (my oldest sister no longer living at home) sprang up instantly and ran out of our bedrooms as it crashed down... my sister ran to the door crying as her car (only a couple years old) was outside getting lots of hail love, my parents were distraught about their buildings and crops.  To say there was hail damage was an understatement. After the storm we ventured outside (again, in the middle of the night) to preview the destruction.

Anyways, so last night as we were watching a movie (instead of doing the to do list we were supposed to be doing) we ran to the windows as we heard hail and then Dan bolted for the door to check it out.  Just where to go, right?

No worries, it was baby hail. Not exciting enough for the beagle to get out of her favorite chair but Eddie was curious as to what all this pinging was coming from.

Still, we are glad to have a garage as even baby hail can leave its mark.

The garden was barely impacted- one of Dan's peppers had some leaves stripped but that was it.

any old grilling day

Grilling season is an awesome thing.  It is one of those simple things in life...

It is fun for the whole family.  The dogs love that they get to hang out in the sliver of a backyard.  Dan loves to grill. I love bbq sauce.  And that pretty much sums it up.  Oh and it makes for a perfectly lovely quiet evening talking about summer plans.

Bits and pieces from November

November flew by with a lot of little moments- an awesome walk in Jackson Park that had us looking at apt pricing for Hyde Park, walks at Montrose Harbor, Dan's knee heeled enough for couple runs, boeuf bourguignon turning our apartment into a French bistro, aquiring a $10 chair, movie nights, fun hosting brunch club, doing a first portrait session (!), super yummy pumpkin pie with a new secret blend of spices, helping the squirrels to get their exercise, trips to the farmers market...

It was a good month.  It ended with us being very ready for the holiday season... and talking about what we want to make happen in 2011.
